About Rahmat

Rahmat Mansoor has spent the past decade putting down roots in Bradford West Gwillimbury: coaching local youth sport, volunteering with community associations, and sitting in the public gallery at council meetings long before deciding to run for one of the seats.

The story

Rahmat's family moved to Bradford West Gwillimbury looking for the same thing most families here were looking for: a place with room to grow, close enough to the city to work, far enough from it to belong to something. A decade later that is still the best description of what this town is, and what it risks losing if growth is managed carelessly.

That close-up view of Town Hall is what turned an interested resident into a candidate. Too many decisions about growth, traffic and services get made without enough input from the people who actually live with the results. By the time most residents hear about a change on their street, the useful moment to weigh in has already passed.

Rahmat's campaign is about bringing that everyday, on-the-ground perspective directly to the council table: reading the staff report, asking the unglamorous question about servicing capacity, and reporting back in language a neighbour can follow.

This town gave my family a place to belong. I'm running so the next family that moves here finds a council that's still listening.

Connection to Ward 3

To be supplied by the campaign: Rahmat's own account of his connection to Ward 3, in his words.

Experience

Community work, mostly unpaid and mostly unglamorous. It is the part of a candidate's background that actually predicts how they will behave at a council table.

Community

Youth sport coaching

Volunteer coach with local youth leagues, and a regular set of hands at tournaments, fundraisers and season setup.

Community

Neighbourhood associations

Working with resident associations on traffic calming, park maintenance and construction-impact issues across the ward.

Civic

Council and committee attendance

Attending council and committee meetings and reading the agenda packages. NOTE: an earlier draft also claimed deputations on growth and servicing items. Deputations are formally minuted, so that claim is checkable and was removed until the campaign confirms it.

2022

Candidate for Ward 1 Councillor

Stood in the 2022 municipal election in Ward 1, receiving 235 votes. This is a matter of public record and the campaign may prefer to frame it differently, but a second run reads better acknowledged than discovered.

Professional

To be supplied by the campaign

Professional background, qualifications and any board or committee appointments. This entry renders as an open gap on purpose rather than as invented experience.

How Rahmat works

Read the whole report

The important detail is almost never in the recommendation. It is in the servicing appendix.

Say the trade-off out loud

Every yes at council is a no somewhere else. Residents can handle that if you tell them.

Responsiveness is not a soft skill in municipal politics. It is most of the job.
